Swing Time - Bojangles of Harlem
PLEASE Read this before crying "Racist!":
Yes, Fred Astaire is in blackface makeup but it is not meant to be racist at all. This is his tribute to Bill Robinson, also known as Bojangles, whose style influenced Fred Astaire. And Fred Astaire is in no way racist, much of his style of dancing and tap comes from African American influence, and in the movie 'Shall We Dance' he even went completely against the grain and had a dance scene with African Americans.
And if you still believe it to be racist and offensive, please understand that it was in no way intended to be racist and I'm sure if Astaire was alive today he would apologize for any ill-feeling.
Thank you.
Music by Jerome Kern and lyrics by Dorothy Fields.

Swing Time - Rogers and Astaire
Переглядів 18 млн17 років тому
In this Swing Time clip, Lucky, Astaire, saves Penny's, Rogers, job by showing how much she has taught him. The first true dance number with the two, the other being with Fred fumbling and pretending to be a terrible dancer. Both scenes, however, go to the same song, Pick Yourself Up, this scene without lyrics and much more lively with the other more calm, with lyrics, between the two. Music by...
Top Hat - No Strings

Fred Astaire's solo, and the first true dance number of the movie, in Top Hat. As he goes into a fit of dancing to "No Strings" and gleeful at his single and carefree life, he unwittingly wakes up Ginger Rogers in the room below.
Back when people in Hollywood were actually talented
My parents and uncle were kids when this 1936 film came out. Astaire was born the same year as my paternal grandfather in 1899 but same month and day as my uncle was in 1921 which is pretty eerie and my maternal grandfather would be born in 1900 and his wife was born in 1904. Kinda interesting seeing this 1936 clip when my parents and uncle were kids.
I never ever tire of watching this. Just faaaaaaabulous .
Excelente 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I’m here cause of Family Feud and didn’t know who he was, but respect he is a great dancer.
😃✌👍✌😃
First time I've seen him dance this has to be one of the best dances scene I've seen😮
There are lots more examples on UA-cam. He had a 25 year career as a dancing leading man, following a similar period in Vaudeville and on Broadway with his sister and then on TV (his first show being the first one produced in colour). Over 50 years professional dancing in a career spanning three quarters of a century. Not your average Joe.
I would be sweating brickbats
I could watch these two all day. Absolute perfection - timing, grace, rhythm, looks!!
I’m having the best time. Thank you
Ye
God loves you. Fall in love with Him. He won't disappoint
Completen lo que presentan okk
I can’t believe she can dance like that in high heels! I’d break my ankle!
2:06 amazing
А ХТО ТАНЦЮВАВ ФОКС +СТЕП? ТО СПРОБУЙТЕ. +++
ЦЕ ЯКАЗЬ ЕЙФОРІЯ. ФАНТАСТІК. В N.Y.
The one and only Fred Astaire and the great Ginger Rogers. Now thats pure talent at its best.
Superb❤❤🎉🎉
In High heels !
I wish i am on the top of the world never happened. Please don't re run the old tape.
Absolutely. These are so very talented people. You have an amazing history what happened to you
Very staisfying
Looks easy yet difficult, very difficult.
This amazing performance made my day. Brilliant.
❤❤❤
Pure joy.
Yo me identifico con esto me gusta mucho lo antiguo!!!
Cuando veo esto me da nostalgia hubiera querido vivir esa época en verdad!!!
She's so fine ❤
Fred Astaire was a Democrat so it's allowed for him.
In a European tour, Michael Jackson had an opening number with figures similar to ones in background of Astaire's number. I remember. Wow
There doesn't have to be any apologies to the woke idiots of today. It's was a tribute to a great dancer Mr. Bill Bojangles Robinson that was done. That was more than deserved. No apologies, no apologies needed.
Thar smooth boss exit at the end...
I wonder if they did the dance on the first take?
The dancing is phenomenal! I 100% want to learn to dance like this! Again, can’t express enough how much joy this brought me. I’ve watched it twice through already!
El verdadero ASMR
Tapping in high heels. Amazing. How can you dance like that in high heels?
This is a really good movie 🎬 ❤😊
Damn how boring
Michael Jackson paid tribute to Fred Astaire's 'Girl Hunt' number from 'THE BAND WAGON', with his video, 'SMOOTH CRIMINAL'..!
'Blackface' was a standard in show business; black, as well as, white performers performed in blackface..
Ain't step on Each other's feet not once 🙌🏾✅ God bless em
This movie is almost 90 years old. Let’s think about that for a moment
Without john bubbles and bojangles robinson fred astaire will be nothing and i call that respect for what was FA was doing 💯👌👍👊👏🙏RIP to the three of them 🙏
They just float ❤
I can't believe saying he was doing blackface which he wasn't and look at him very closely he looks tanned to me 😊RIP 🙏
Non - issue! Grow up offended one's.
She's better than Fred's other partners because she's a better actress. She brings that to the dance. And then there are those legs. But seriously, they must have worked like demons to get this routine down. Barring a couple of reaction shots from Eric Blore, we're seeing them go straight through the choreography with no break, which is very demanding on a movie schedule where "time is money". The rehearsals must have been very exacting. Ginger said her feet were bleeding.
